Barbara Wagner
"My visual perception allows, in fact looks for, simultaneous visions, or glimpses,
of selected imagery to form a composite.
I pick and choose visual elements, but also incorporate invention and memory.
My current work focuses on interior space and pattern.
I especially like handcrafted objects or textiles
that are ethnic in origin but also reveal similarities or links among cultures.
I am also fascinated by glass and water,
particularly their quality of altering images and making them more ambiguous, or at times
more precious, like looking through a kaleidoscope.
The divisions in my present work accommodate my interests.
They allow for multiple images or perspectives to be integrated into a single painting,
and they allow for invention.
This complexity seems more "real" to me then literal representation.
Objects provide an endless array of associations.
They become a link between people through time and space.
They initiate for me a process that involves my love for color, texture, line and shape,
as well as how paint moves, interacts and affect the canvas,
and of course how it in turn affects the viewer."
