Pamela Larsson-Toscher
As a child, I learned to speak with my hands. My parents were deaf. Even then, I understood that my hands could be used to express my thoughts and feelings and to interpret the world around me.
In a way, my paintings are simply a logical extension of that of that early childhood experience. I see the world through an artist's eye. It is not a snop-shot of a person or a place, or an object. Rather, what I see is filtered through the prism of my thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I then use my hands to express that vision, be it, reality or fantasy, using techniques of the old masters.
My challenge is to capture the essence of my subject and invite the viewer into my painting. One may connect with the same vision I had, or one may create one of her own.
I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica
and studied there with artist Mr. Barrington Watson. By the age of 15 I had
works for sale in galleries.
After a hiatus of more than 20 years, I again began to paint. I have studied
with Bay Area artist Raymond Saunders, Norweigan artist Jan Saether, and Santa
Barbara sculptor Bela Bacsi, among others. I am once again selling in galleries,
winning awards and working hard in my studio.
