Keith Gantos

Keith enjoys painting themes that may cause one to ponder, muse or smile.

The detail in his paintings is to draw one closer into the painting looking for this or that.

The subjects are those familiar to him, each with a memory behind them.

His techniques, at present, lend themselves to a glazing of oil,

so that the light travels through the layers of color and bounce off the primed white background surface

back to the eye so as to attempt, awkwardly at best, to mimic colors as seen in creation.

Yet opaque paint is used if he feels it’s needed.

The pigments of color in their purest form can be so vibrant,

and to try to keep that intensity can be rewarding.

Monochromatic setting can also be enjoyable with the fine variation of color, tone, intensity

and then perhaps a splash of complimentary color,

whether it’s hidden in reflective shadow, or more obvious as the subject takes center stage in the scene.

These are the things that Keith finds so enjoyable when attempting to capture that moment in time.
