Laerpe Motta

Drawing since adolescent as a type of "magic reconstruction of reality" this Rio de Janeiro born artist

has developed an elaborate and markedly personal artistic language.

Dispensing with the conventional art courses Laerpe Motta became a self-thought advertising man

making the day to day life its mean of artistic education.

He also became a recognized graphic designer.

His association with the painter Enrico Bianco gave him a decisive stimulus

to dedicate himself full time to painting.

Motta has never liked straight lines: his figures are rounded, sensual, stylized

in a search for an artistic logo of reality.

To Laerpe drawing is the love for being born and painting is the act of love itself.

Laerpe went through his moment of lyricism with children and doves,

then invented the mischievous and affectionate cupids and biblical prophets.

Today he also portrays man laboring over the fruits of the earth.

Since 1966 he has been doing individual exhibitions earning the honors

of one of the most successful painters of Rio de Janeiro.

He also is respected by the new generation of artist as a creator of a pure technique

with all the romance and poetry that he captures in his canvases.

Laerpe Motta is today recognized by well known art collectors and art critics.

In 1997 he received a golden medal at the International Center of Contemporary Art in Paris.

In Brazil he has received several golden and silver medals

and his work can be found in private collections and Museums around the world.
