Robin Caspari
The horse holds a certain power, freedom and wildness that has never gone unnoticed by man. Historically, almost every culture has been bonded to the horse through our most monumental experiences and he has been responsible for our survival in many cases. Their presence throughout our cultures has been essential to our character and we undoubtedly have molded and share one another's qualities. I use the horse as an expressive vehicle to create an aesthetic response and touch people on an emotional level. I believe art is an extension of the human experience that communicates beyond the ability of language and is the voice for the human sentiment and soul.
The simultaneous combinations of design elements within my work are intended to create a visual harmony which is a significant factor in the ability of a painting to register in the human mind. The foregrounds of my work have traditionally been based around the mass, pure beauty and energy of the horse, while backgrounds are supportive color fields that were originally inspired by the relationships of colors and shapes in weather patterns. My work is constantly changing and gaining momentum as each new piece integrates design elements, new and old, that in unison strengthen and clarify the content of my work.
I am currently concentrating on developing textures and challenging color and line. The use of metallic, luminescent and interference media has been a phenomenal aid and has catapulted my work into a new era. There is a certain freedom in the fact that light comes from everywhere, it reflects and absorbs into every object and metallic based media displays this trait beautifully as light sources advance and shift throughout the day.
The commitment to critiquing the evolution of my work has been paramount to my development and through this I embrace change as a motivator and challenger. I habitually push design elements to the brink of destruction, sometimes touching the edge of harmony, building a "hybrid vigor" and vibrancy on each new canvas. I have faith that each new painting will bring my work to a more intense level of pure aesthetic form, which in turn express valuable content for my viewers. A big thanks to all that support my work and as always we are interested to hear comments and thoughts.
